“Don’t You Dare Get on That Plane,” My CEO Husband Shouted After I Announced Our Divorce While He Was at the Hospital With Another Woman and Her Newborn—He Abandoned Everything and Raced to the Airport to Stop Me, but When He Reached My Gate, He Saw Two People Beside Me and a Black Folder Open on the Table

Part 3 of 3

The company was connected to Melissa’s cousin.

Then Lena showed me housing expenses tied to Melissa’s apartment, payments involving the Range Rover and medical costs categorized as executive retention expenses.

“How much?”

Lena turned the laptop toward me.

“So far? Almost $2.8 million that needs explaining.”

I kept scrolling.

Then I saw my own name.

OLIVIA HALE — AUTHORIZED.

“I didn’t authorize these.”

“I know.”

She opened a document.

At the bottom was my electronic signature.

It looked real.

But I had never signed it.

I reached for my phone.

Lena put her hand beside it.

“Don’t call him yet.”

“Why?”

“Because right now we know something happened. I want the original server records before anyone knows we’re looking.”

I left my phone on the table.

That afternoon Grant texted me.

“Acquisition is becoming a nightmare. Might be working late all week.”

I stared at the message.

Then typed:

“Okay.”

The Morning My Husband Lied to My Face

Two days later, Lena secured copies of the original server data.

The records were much harder to explain away.

Payments had moved through consulting contracts and vendors connected to Melissa. Personal expenses had been mixed into legitimate company spending.

And someone had attached my electronic signature to an authorization I had never seen.

I called Evelyn Shaw.

She listened without interrupting.

Then she asked one question.

“When is your next flight to Seattle?”

Northstar was scheduled to finalize a major acquisition there.

Grant had pushed the deal harder than anything I had seen him pursue in years.

Lena had already found unusual payment structures connected to it.

Evelyn wanted an emergency board meeting before the transaction was signed.

Thursday morning, Grant stood in our bedroom adjusting his tie.

“I probably won’t answer my phone today.”

I sat on the edge of the bed.

“The Seattle deal?”

“Yeah. Lawyers, bankers, the usual mess.”

He leaned down and kissed my forehead.

“Don’t wait up.”

At 10:17 a.m., Lena sent me a message.

Melissa had been admitted to St. Catherine Medical Center.

She was in labor.

Twenty-six minutes later, Grant’s car entered the hospital garage.

I read the message twice.

Then I opened my closet and took down a suitcase.

I packed enough clothes for several days.

My wedding ring caught against the zipper.

For a second, I considered removing it.

Instead, I left it on.

Not yet.

By the time I reached the airport, Evelyn and Daniel had secured enough directors for an emergency meeting.

Melissa had delivered her baby.

Grant was still at the hospital.

That was when I made the divorce announcement.

His call came almost instantly.

And less than an hour later, Daniel looked down at his phone.

“He’s coming.”

“Here?”

“Here.”

Grant had left the hospital.

Grant Finally Saw Who Was Waiting for Me

Evelyn sat on my left.

Daniel sat on my right with the black folder open.

Several directors had joined through a secure video conference.

Lena appeared on another screen.

Then I saw Grant.

He was moving quickly through the concourse.

His jacket was gone. His tie was loose.

He slowed when he saw Evelyn.

Then Daniel.

Then the laptop.

His expression changed.

“Olivia.”

I stayed seated.

“Sit down, Grant.”

“We need to talk privately.”

Evelyn closed the folder.

“No, you need to attend this meeting.”

Grant looked between us.

“What meeting?”

Daniel answered.

“An emergency meeting of the Northstar board.”

Grant stared at me.

“You called the board?”

“I exercised my rights under my father’s trust.”

For several seconds, he said nothing.

Lena began with the payments.

She showed the consulting agreements.

The vendor connections.

The apartment expenses.

The vehicle.

Grant interrupted.

“Those were retention expenses.”

Lena continued.

Then came the authorization containing my electronic signature.

Grant leaned closer.

I pointed at it.

“Did I sign that?”

“You approve hundreds of documents.”

“Did I sign that one?”

He looked toward Evelyn.

“This is being taken completely out of context.”

Lena opened the original server record.

The authorization had been uploaded through an executive account while Grant was logged into Northstar’s internal system.

More importantly, Lena had preserved the original data before anyone could alter it.

Grant pushed back from the table.

“This is about Melissa.”

Nobody answered.

His eyes moved to me.

“You found out about her and decided to destroy the company.”

“The company is why we’re sitting here.”

“You haven’t run Northstar in years.”

“I never said I did.”

His voice became sharper.

“You’ve barely been yourself since your father died.”

Evelyn looked at him.

Grant kept going.

“You never had children. Northstar became the thing you clung to instead. Now you’re angry and you’re turning a personal problem into a corporate crisis.”

I didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, I opened my handbag.

There was one final file Lena had asked me not to use unless Grant denied knowing what the money was for.

He had just denied it.

I placed my phone on the table.

“There’s something else the board needs to hear.”

Grant’s eyes dropped to the screen.

The color left his face.

For the first time since he arrived at the airport, he stopped trying to explain.

And I pressed play.
