Trump mocked as ‘Dozy Don’ after photo – White House issues scathing response

The Trump administration has been forced to respond after viral clips appeared to show President Donald Trump dozing off during an official event — a moment that quickly dominated social media and drew waves of ridicule.

Last week, cameras captured Trump leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed during a televised Oval Office briefing on weight loss medications, sparking a flurry of memes and the now-popular nickname “Dozy Don.”

The jab struck a particular chord given Trump’s long history of mocking his predecessor as “Sleepy Joe.”

Viral Moment During Drug Price Announcement

The briefing featured Dr. Mehmet Oz, Trump’s head of Medicare services, who was announcing plans to reduce the cost of GLP-1 weight loss drugs.

As Oz detailed the policy, Trump appeared to briefly slump in his chair, fueling online speculation that he had fallen asleep.

“People can sleep again, because they can breathe when they go to bed,” Oz said beside the Resolute Desk — ironically as the president’s eyes seemed to stay shut.

Newsom Revives “Dozy Don” Nickname

California Governor Gavin Newsom wasted no time jumping in on the mockery. Two months earlier, his press office had already begun calling Trump “Dozy Don” after similar photos surfaced of him appearing to nod off during a public event.

After the new footage made headlines, Newsom posted on X: “DOZY DON IS BACK.”

His press office later followed up with a meme titled “The Nodfather,” a parody of The Godfather movie poster showing Trump with his eyes closed.

At 79, Trump is now older than Joe Biden was when he assumed office in 2020, raising fresh questions about his endurance and energy during major events.

White House Denies “Sleeping” Claims

The White House strongly rejected the idea that Trump fell asleep, calling the reports “garbage” in a fiery statement.

“The President was not sleeping; in fact, he spoke throughout and took many questions from the press during this announcement which represents a historic reduction in prices for Americans on two drugs that help Americans struggling with diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and other conditions,” the statement said.

Officials accused the “liberal media” of twisting the moment for clicks instead of focusing on what they described as a major policy breakthrough.

“This announcement by President Trump will save a significant amount of money and countless American lives, and yet the failing, liberal media want to push a garbage narrative instead of covering it,” the White House told CNN.

If enacted, the policy would reduce the cost of GLP-1 drugs to $149 a month for oral versions and $249 for injectables.

A Chaotic Week Inside the West Wing

The Oval Office briefing wasn’t the only dramatic moment of the week. During another White House event, an unnamed pharmaceutical executive suddenly collapsed, causing brief panic among attendees.

Photos showed Dr. Oz and other officials rushing to assist the man, while Health Secretary RFK Jr. was seen exiting the frame.

Meanwhile, Trump stood at his desk watching the scene unfold — an image that quickly spread online.

“Just replace the guy on the floor with America and we have the perfect painting for 2025,” one Reddit user quipped.

Dr. Oz later confirmed that the executive recovered fully after receiving prompt medical care.
