The sweet symbolism behind Kate Middleton’s Armistice Day earrings

Kate Middleton’s newest choice of earrings carries a touching tribute to her eldest son, Prince George.

Kate’s Appearance at the Armistice Day Service

On Tuesday, the Princess of Wales attended the annual Armistice Day service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, following her attendance at Remembrance Sunday over the weekend.

For the ceremony, she chose a double-breasted black Catherine Walker coat featuring military-style embroidery across the chest. She completed the look with paper poppies and a brooch shaped like the Irish Guards badge, pinned to her shoulder — a nod to her role as their regimental colonel, a title she received in December 2022.

The coat is a familiar piece; she previously wore it for Remembrance Sunday in both 2019 and 2023, pairing it with hats crafted by Philip Treacy on those occasions.

This year, she complemented the outfit with custom Gianvito Rossi boots.

A New Pair of Meaningful Earrings

Beneath a wide-brimmed Jane Taylor hat ($2,884), Kate wore her hair pulled back in braids, drawing attention to her ruby and diamond cluster drop earrings.

These earrings consist of a diamond stud, followed by two more diamonds, and finished with a classic halo setting surrounding a central ruby.

They are relatively new to her collection, making only two public appearances so far — once in May during the military procession marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and again in September while welcoming President Trump and First Lady Melania.

A Symbolic Gesture Toward Prince George

This year also marked Prince George’s first involvement in official Remembrance Day events, as he joined his mother at the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday. At 12, he is the same age Prince William was when he first took part.

Rubies happen to be July’s birthstone, and George was born on July 22, making Kate’s choice especially meaningful as her son begins taking on a more public role within the Royal Family.

Her decision to wear the same earrings back in May carried a similar message of support, as George had joined her for a tea party at Buckingham Palace held in honor of World War II veterans.
