Kate Middleton Makes Honest Confession About Prince George After His Big Royal Debut

After accompanying his mother to the annual Festival of Remembrance, Prince George has once again impressed royal-watchers with how much he already knows at just 12 years old.

Princess Kate Shares George’s Latest Fascination

During an Armistice Day engagement on Tuesday, Nov. 11, Kate Middleton visited the National Memorial Arboretum for a Service of Remembrance. Afterward, the Princess of Wales, 43, spoke with several World War II veterans, including Geoffrey Spencer, who served in the Royal Air Force and flew Lancaster Bombers.

The conversation immediately reminded Princess Kate of her son. According to PA reporter Stephanie Wareham, she told Spencer that Prince George is a “big fan” of the heavy bomber and loves building Airfix model planes.

She even joked, “He knows more about aircraft than I do.”

A Family Passion for Aviation

Prince George’s interest fits perfectly within the family’s long-standing love of flying. Prince William spent years piloting helicopters for the RAF Search and Rescue Force in Wales and has clearly passed that enthusiasm to his children.

From a young age, George has shown excitement over aircraft. He was thrilled to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in 2016, and during the family’s 2023 visit to the event, he was spotted experimenting with cockpit controls and touring various planes alongside Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Aviation isn’t the only subject where George excels. In an episode of The Reluctant Traveler on Apple TV, Prince William admitted to Eugene Levy that his eldest son has surpassed him in historical knowledge.

“If you want to know about history, I’m not the guy,” William said. “Actually, George, my son, is way better in history than I am. I have to check with him now on my dates. I think I probably need some history lessons… I could do with that.”

A Big Weekend for the Young Royal

Princess Kate’s latest comments follow Prince George’s debut at a major royal event just days earlier. On Saturday, Nov. 8, he joined his mother, King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other senior royals at the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Prince William typically attends the event with Kate. However, PEOPLE reports that he was on a commercial flight home from Belém, Brazil — where travel options are limited — and arrived back in time to take part in the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph the next morning.

Prince George may be young, but his growing passions — especially for aviation and history — are already capturing attention and continuing the royal family’s traditions in a charming way.
