The trick to spotting (and eliminate) a mosquito hiding in the bedroom

You’re finally lying down, ready to drift off to sleep… when a faint buzzing ruins the moment.

That pesky mosquito again, circling endlessly but never showing itself! You’ve tried everything—keeping the lights on, pulling the blanket up to your nose—but nothing works. What if the solution was actually right in the palm of your hand?

A simple trick… using your phone!

Yes, you read that right. No need to jump out of bed or turn into a mosquito-fighting ninja. All you need is your smartphone. The idea? Lure the mosquito with light and the carbon dioxide you exhale. Simple as that.

Here’s how to do it:

Lie comfortably on your back in bed. Breathe deeply.

Turn your phone’s brightness all the way up.

Place it on your chest with the screen facing upward.

If your sheets are light-colored, bend your knees. This creates a contrasting background that makes it easier to spot the mosquito.

Blow gently toward the phone. The carbon dioxide will naturally attract the insect.

Wait a few minutes. Drawn by the glow and your breath, the mosquito will come closer…

Once it lands on or near the screen—it’s your move!

Say goodbye to sleepless nights caused by that sneaky mosquito

This hack works for both common mosquitoes and the tiger mosquito. To make it easier, keep a small object nearby—like a towel or notebook—so you don’t have to swat it with your bare hands. Unless, of course, you enjoy the thrill of midnight hunting!

One more tip: avoid smashing it with your hand unless you want to decorate your sheets with unpleasant stains. A cloth or a little notebook will do the job just fine.

What if you’ve already been bitten?

Too late, the mosquito got you? Don’t worry—we all have our little home remedies to ease the itch. A drop of diluted lavender essential oil, a bit of apple cider vinegar, or even a slice of lemon on the spot can really help soothe the irritation.

Bonus: why do some people always get bitten?

Some people seem invisible to mosquitoes, while others are their favorite feast. It all comes down to body odor, blood type, and even your skin temperature. Curious to know more? We’ve explained it all in a dedicated article right here!

As you can see, this trick doesn’t require any special equipment, sprays, or gadgets—just a little patience and your phone. And that’s something we all have within reach.

Sleep tight—the mosquitoes don’t stand a chance!
