Mix Bananas, Honey and Water: Cough and Bronchitis Will Disappear

If you’ve ever battled bronchitis, you know how draining it can be. When your airways are clogged and inflamed, even the simplest tasks — walking, talking, breathing — can feel like a challenge.

Bronchitis often begins as a mild cold but can quickly escalate into a persistent cough caused by inflammation of the bronchial tubes. This cough may bring up thick, yellowish mucus and linger for weeks — even after the infection subsides. In severe or untreated cases, it can lead to lasting lung damage.

Conventional treatments include rest, staying hydrated, and avoiding irritants like smoke or pollution. In more stubborn cases, doctors may prescribe inhalers, steroids, or even supplemental oxygen. But whether it’s mild or chronic, bronchitis often means a long recovery and weeks of frustrating coughing.

A Gentle Homemade Relief

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 400 ml boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons of honey

Instructions:

  1. Peel and mash the bananas using a wooden spoon or fork until smooth.
  2. Place the mashed bananas in a bowl or pot and pour in the boiling water.
  3. Let the mixture steep for 30 minutes.
  4. Once the liquid has cooled to room temperature, stir in the honey (this helps preserve honey’s beneficial properties).
  5. Store the mixture in a sealed container and take 100 ml four times per day.
  6. Make a fresh batch daily and repeat the process for five days.
Why This Combo Works
Bananas

Bananas are rich in nutrients, including fiber, antioxidants, and natural sugars that are gentle on the stomach. They contain dopamine and catechins — two antioxidants that help reduce oxidative stress. While dopamine in food doesn’t affect the brain directly, it can still act as a free radical fighter.

Bananas are also a good source of manganese, which supports tissue repair — particularly useful if your lungs are inflamed. More interestingly, research suggests that a protein found in bananas (banana lectin or BanLec) may bind to certain viruses, potentially reducing their ability to spread. Though still being studied, this discovery shows promising antiviral potential.

Honey

Honey has been used for centuries to relieve coughs, and modern science backs it up. One study found that honey outperformed dextromethorphan — a common cough suppressant — in calming nighttime coughing in children.

Honey coats the throat, easing irritation. It also provides small amounts of vitamins and minerals like B-complex vitamins, calcium, magnesium, and zinc, which all support the body’s healing process. Manuka honey is particularly rich in these nutrients and is known for its enhanced antibacterial activity.

Water

While simple, water is essential when you’re ill. It helps regulate body temperature, prevents dehydration (especially if you have a fever), and flushes out toxins and pathogens. Hydration also helps thin mucus, making it easier to clear your airways.

A Natural Option for Support

This banana and honey mixture isn’t a substitute for medical treatment — especially if your symptoms are severe or prolonged — but it may offer gentle support alongside your recovery routine. Its ingredients are safe, affordable, and easy to find, making it a comforting option to try at home.
