Airlines That Will Allow Dogs and Cats in The Cabin

Part 1 of 2

Traveling is an exciting yet exhausting experience, and for pet owners, the decision to bring their furry companions along adds another layer of complexity. While some see traveling with pets as an added hassle, others find it essential for emotional or medical support. Over the years, it has become increasingly common to see travelers at airports accompanied by their dogs and cats.

Pets: More Than Companions

For many, pets are more than just animals—they are family members. Leaving them behind during a vacation can feel heartbreaking. Some people rely on their pets for emotional comfort, while others depend on them for critical health support. This reliance often makes it difficult, or even impossible, for them to travel without their pets.

Pets Riding in the Cabin

In the past, traveling with pets typically meant caging them and checking them into the cargo hold, where they traveled with the luggage. While incidents were rare, many pet owners found it stressful to leave their beloved animals in the hands of the airline, fearing they might feel scared or overwhelmed.

For some, leaving pets in the cargo hold isn’t an option at all, especially when the pets are service animals trained to detect medical emergencies like low blood sugar, seizures, or cardiac issues. These animals are a vital part of their owner’s safety and need to stay by their side.

Flying With Dogs: A Growing Trend

The need to accommodate pets in the cabin has sparked significant discussions. By the end of 2023, more than 20 airlines worldwide had begun allowing pets to travel in the cabin. Among these airlines are Air Canada, Delta, Lufthansa, United Airlines, and American Airlines, each with its own rules and requirements regarding breed, size, and age.
