Prince William’s sad eight-word remark to King Charles and Princess Diana after bitter divorce

Prince William had a clear and direct reaction when questioned about Meghan Markle’s allegations against the Royal Family, made during her explosive 2020 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The televised conversation between Meghan and Prince Harry marked a turning point in royal history, coming shortly after the couple’s decision to step down as senior royals and relocate to California.

Meghan and Harry’s Explosive Interview with Oprah

During the interview, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made several shocking claims about their time within the royal institution. One of the most discussed moments came when Meghan revealed that conversations had allegedly taken place about how dark her unborn son Archie’s skin might be.

“In those months when I was pregnant, there were concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born,” Meghan said.

Harry added, “That conversation, I am never going to share. At the time it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

Meghan’s Dispute with Kate Middleton

Another revelation concerned Meghan’s strained relationship with Kate, the Princess of Wales. Contrary to reports suggesting Meghan had made Kate cry before the royal wedding, Meghan claimed it was actually the other way around.

“A few days before the wedding, [Kate] was upset about the flower girl dresses and it made me cry,” Meghan explained, adding that Kate later apologized and brought her flowers.

“I’m not sharing that piece about Kate to be disparaging about her,” Meghan clarified.

Harry on His Relationship with His Father

During the same interview, Prince Harry spoke candidly about his father, King Charles, revealing feelings of deep disappointment and distance.

“I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar; he knows what pain feels like, and Archie’s his grandson,” Harry said. “But at the same time, of course I will always love him, but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened, and I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship.”

In the days following the interview, Prince William was confronted by a reporter during a visit to a London school, who asked if the Royal Family was racist. His response was firm and brief: “We’re very much not a racist family.”

Buckingham Palace’s Official Statement

Buckingham Palace also released a carefully worded statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, addressing the issues raised by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

The statement reflected the late Queen’s measured approach—acknowledging the couple’s grievances while emphasizing the family’s intention to handle the matter behind closed doors.
